| While many visitors never get beyond the ocean playground of Huatulco, what makes the area so unique is
the dramatic mountain backdrop and the array of adventures that can be found in "them thar hills". Less than ten miles from the coast are
6000' peaks, and about 35 miles inland the highest mountains in southern Mexico top out at 12,300'. Due to a maze of rough mountain
roads and poor maps of the area, few people explore the mountains except through packaged tours. There's a lot more waiting to be discovered
for those willing to undertake a little adventure. The waterfalls of the Copalitilla are the highlight of the area
and are a lush and cool respite from the sun of the beach.
